2 Punjab men get 10-year imprisonment in Udhampur drug case

UDHAMPUR, Apr 19: Additional District and Session Judge Udhampur convicted two inter-state drug peddlers from Punjab and awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to each of them in a 2020 NDPS Act case.
According to Police, the convicts, namely Jaspreet Singh, son of Nichhatar Singh of Kamke Kallan, Jagraon, Ludhiana and Sandeep Singh, son of Chamkar Singh, resident of Pukwala, Rajpura, Ludhiana, were also fined Rs one lakh each. In default of payment, they will undergo an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
They were apprehended on September 9, 2020, after being found in possession of 175 kg of poppy straw in their Mahindra Bolero vehicle (HP10HJ-2556) on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway while returning from Kashmir. A case FIR number 97/2020, under Section 8/15 of NDPS Act was registered against them at Police Station Chenani.
After completion of the investigation by Police and trial, the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Udhampur, convicted the accused under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and sentenced them to 10 years rigorous imprisonment besides a fine of Rs one lakh each.
