2 militants trapped in Kulgam

Srinagar, Nov 13: Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) are trapped in a South Kashmir village where a fierce encounter broke out this evening.
Police said that acting on a specific information regarding the presence of militants in village Chanigam Frisal in district Kulgam security forces cordoned off the area.
Sources said that Police had information about the presence of two militants of LeT in the village. They said that these militants fired on the troops leading to a fierce encounter.
Sources said that the militants were hiding in the house of one Mohammad Akram Bhat son of Gul Mohammad Bhat. They said that house of Bhat was damaged in the encounter.
Police believes that both the militants are dead but so far no body was recovered.
A police spokesman said here that on a specific information regarding the presence of armed militants in village Chanigam, Frisal, in the jurisdiction of police station Yaripora, Kulgam Police and 1 RR and 18 Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation.
“The joint party was fired upon by militants triggering an encounter that is going on”, the spokesman added.
It may be mentioned here that security forces today fired in air in panic after some gunshots were heard near a Congress rally in South Kashmir’s Yaripora area yesterday.
The firing caused panic among the Congress supporters and others in Yaripora village where Inayatullah Rather, Congress candidate, was scheduled to address a gathering.
Police and security forces rushed to the area where from gun shots were heard and conducted searches in the area. However, nothing was found but security forces had kept a track of these militants.
