2 militants killed in Shopian

SRINAGAR, Apr 17 : Two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Shopian district today.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, told Excelsior that a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched cordon and search operation in Dairoo, Keegam area after specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that both the militants were killed during the encounter which broke out when security forces challenged them. He added that their identity is being ascertained. “The DNA samples have been taken in presence of a Magistrate”, he said.
However, sources that the militants are locals and identified them as Rahil Magray of Ganawpora in district Shopian and Asif Ahmad Dar of Bungam in district Shopian.
The bodies of both the militants were taken to Srinagar.
Militants this evening fired upon CRPF in Pulwama injuring one person identified as Indar Kumar of Rajasthan. He was shifted to District Hospital Pulwama for treatment. The area was immediately cordoned off and searches were launched.
