2 killed, 8 hurt as vehicle plunges into gorge

MENDHAR,  June 5: Two persons were killed while at least eight others injured when a Tavera vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Jarranwali Gali in Gursai area of Mendhar in district Poonch early today.
A police spokesman said that mishap took place when the vehicle bearing  registration number JK21/ 8979 was on way to Poonch from Jammu at around 4 AM. The driver apparently under the grip of  sleep, lost control on the vehicle at Kallar Morha near Jarranwali Gali and it was landed into a gorge.
The Army people from the nearby unit and locals of the area rushed to the spot.  SDPO Mendhar Shahid Nahim with force also arrived there after some time.  The police evacuated the injured to Surankote hospital. BMO Surankote  Parvez Ahmed Khan rushed the ambulance   to the spot. All the eight injured were removed to Surankote hospital. Three of them were later referred to GMC Hospital Jammu.
The two deceased persons were identified as Mohd Shafi,  son of  Feroz Din, resident of  Poonch and driver Tanveer Ahmed from Saujian village in Mandi. The other injured were identified as Zaffar Ahmed, Mehmood Ahmed, Zaffar Iqbal, Mohd Irfan, Zakir Hussain, Mohd Sadiq, Abdul Karim and  Mohd Ibrahim,  all hailing from Poonch.   Later, Mohd Sadiq, Mohd Kareem and Zakir were referred to GMC Jammu.        The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
