JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, Nov 16: Seven persons died and 390 tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir today including four senior doctors in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, two of them Head of Departments (HoDs), father of a female IAS officer and several members of the families in Jammu City and outskirts.
Four senior doctors in the GMC Jammu who tested positive for the virus include Dr Rahul Gupta, HoD Chest Diseases, Dr Ilyas Sharma, HoD Urology, Dr Jyotsna Suri, Associate Professor Pathology and her husband Dr Vivek Gandotra, who is Cardiac Surgeon in Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Department. Five members of Dr Gandotra’s family while wife and parents of Dr Rahul Gupta have also tested positive. Dr Gandotra’s father has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in view of his serious condition.
All these doctors were in forefront of COVID management for past over eight months and got infected in the process.
Three doctors posted in the peripheries have also been infected.
GMC Jammu Principal Dr Shashi S Sudhan said post-festivity and keeping in view the winter season, the COVID beds and oxygen facilities have been increased in the hospital.
“There has been marginal increase in COVID positive cases and patients in the OPDs in the GMC Jammu. The people should strictly adhere to COVID management measures including wearing of masks, maintaining social distancing etc,” she said and called upon the people not to take pandemic lightly.
Meanwhile, father of a female IAS officer hailing from Tawi Vihar on outskirts of Jammu City today tested positive for the virus while her mother tested negative. The IAS officer was positive earlier but has already recovered from virus
Seven members of two families in Trikuta Nagar, three of family in Talab Tillo and four each from Roop Nagar and Mastgarh have reported positive for pathogen. Seven persons each tested positive in Bishnah and Pallanwalla, three each in Akhnoor and Dansal and two each at Jagti and RS Pura.
All three deaths in the Jammu region were reported from Jammu district and occured at Narayana Hospital Katra.
An 87-year-old man from Camp Road Talab Tillo, an 85-year-old man from Mahakali Nagar in Upper Gadigarh and a 78-year-old woman from Gandhi Nagar, died of co-morbidities and COVID-19 in Narayana Hospital today
Of four deaths in Kashmir reported today, three were from Srinagar and one in Pulwama district. With these deaths, Corona toll in Kashmir has reached 1060.
Among 150 Corona positive cases reported in Jammu region, 97 hailed from Jammu district, 84 of whom were locals and 13 travelers. Rest of the cases were recorded in Udhampur district (17), Samba (10), Ramban (8), Kathua and Kishtwar (5 each), Doda (3), Reasi and Rajouri (2 each) and Poonch (1).
Of 152 persons who recovered from the virus today, 94 belonged to Jammu district followed by Samba 15, Kathua 13, Udhampur 12, Rajouri 9, Doda 5 and Poonch 4. No recoveries were today reported from Kishtwar, Ramban and Reasi districts.
Jammu region now has 40870 Corona cases. Of them, 1688 were active positives and 38644 have recovered from the virus while there have been 538 casualties.
Jammu district topped the casualties with 283 followed by Doda 50, Rajouri 48, Udhampur 35, Kathua 33, Samba 25, Poonch 22, Ramban 18, Kishtwar 16 and Reasi 8.
Meanwhile, four Corona fatalities and 97 cases were today reported in Leh district in the Union Territory of Ladakh. No casualty or fresh case was reported in Kargil.
Among 4 casualties in Leh, one each were reported from Sherman and Skubuchan.
The UT of Ladakh now have 93 Corona deaths and 7493 cases.
Meanwhile, Srinagar district with 399 deaths topped the Corona casualties in Kashmir followed by Baramulla 157, Budgam 97, Pulwama 85, Kupwara 78, Anantnag 75, Kulgam 48, Bandipora 48, Shopian 36 and Ganderbal 37.
And in Kashmir 240 people tested positive today.
Srinagar reported 112 cases, Baramulla 58, Budgam 20, Pulwama 8, Kupwara 11, Anantnag 4, Bandipora 11, Ganderbal 13, Kulgam 3 and no case was reported from Shopian.
Srinagar has now total of 21538 positive cases with 1523 active, 19616 recovered, 399 deaths; Baramulla has 6968 positive cases with 671 active, 6140 recovered, 157deaths; Pulwama reported 4866 positive cases with 126 active, 4655 recovered, 85 deaths; Kulgam has 2552 positive cases with 78 active, 2426 recoveries, 48 deaths; Shopian has 2282 positive cases with 80 active, 2166 recovered and 36 deaths; Anantnag district has 4435 positive cases with 205 active, 4155 recovered, 75 deaths; Budgam has 6477 positive cases with 290 active and 6090 recovered, 97 deaths; Kupwara has 4821 positive cases with 438 active, 4305 recovered, 78 deaths; Bandipora has 4246 positive cases with 178 active, 4020 recovered, 48 deaths and Ganderbal has 3954 positive cases with 311 active, 3607 recoveries and 36 deaths.
Moreover, 482 more Covid-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals including 330 from Kashmir valley.
