JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Mar 9: Two persons died of COVID-19, 77 tested positive and 87 other recovered from the virus in Jammu and Kashmir today.
A 78-year-old man from Nanak Nagar locality in Jammu district died of COVID-19 and some ailments in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu taking Corona fatalities in the region to 729 and Jammu district to 377.
COVID fatalities in other districts include 64 in Doda, 57 Udhampur, 55 Rajouri, 53 Kathua, 40 Samba, 24 Poonch, 22 Kishtwar, 21 Ramban and 16 in Reasi district.
A total of 17 persons tested positive for Coronavirus in the region, 13 of them in Jammu district, two Kathua and one each in Rajouri and Doda districts. Rest six districts in the region didn’t report any new cases today.
Eighteen persons recovered from the virus in the region including 11 in Udhampur, six Jammu and one in Kishtwar district.
Jammu region now has 52130 Corona cases. Among them, 175 are active positives while 51226 have recovered from the virus and there have been 729 casualties.
Ramban is the only district in Jammu region which has no active positive case. The highest active positive cases of 141 are in Jammu district followed by eight Kathua, seven each Samba and Poonch, six Udhampur, three Reasi and one each in Rajouri, Doda and Kishtwar districts.
Meanwhile, 60 people including an official of a Revenue Department tested positive in Kashmir, while one person died of Corona in the Valley.
Authorities today closed Tehsil office Drugmulla in district Kupwara for two days after one of the employees of the office tested positive for the Corona.
Authorities shifted the working in a nearby Niayabat some half a kilometre from the main Tehsil office, so as to ensure that people do not suffer.
And those who tested positive today include 36 Srinagar, 10 Baramulla, 9 Budgam, 1 Pulwama and 4 from Anantnag.
With fresh case, the number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 75,061 including 73,141 recoveries and 1,236 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 859 including 684 from Kashmir division.
With 87 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 124,367 which is 97.78 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, two persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Leh district of the UT of Ladakh today.
The UT now has 43 active positive cases.
