The event was inaugurated by Mehmood Ahmad Shah, Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir, and Khalid Majeed, Director of Industries & Commerce, Kashmir.
Officials stated that the aim of the exhibition is to boost sales and provide sustained employment opportunities for artisans, weavers, and cooperative societies.
Mehmood Ahmad Shah, the Director, highlighted the event as an ideal marketing platform for artisans to directly connect with buyers.
“It also provides tourists on Boulevard Road a chance to immerse themselves in the rich art and craft of Kashmir,” he said.
Mohsina Irshad, Assistant Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Srinagar, emphasized the empowerment of local entrepreneurs on the occasion, fostering successful businesses while promoting the region’s heritage and tourism.
“The exhibition serves as a cultural showcase, inviting both locals and visitors to experience the artistic richness of Kashmir,” she said.
Spanning ten days, the exhibition features seventeen stalls along the scenic Boulevard Road, overlooking Dal Lake.
Artisans have been allocated these stalls free of charge, offering them a common platform to exhibit and sell their crafts, including specialties like sozni, paper machie, carpet, leather, crewel, and pashmina.
The artisans who installed their stalls lauded the department for the initiative, stating that it would help them expand their reach and let the tourists feel the real touch of handicraft items.
