LEH, June 29: The post conference 2-day School Education Programme organized jointly by the Institute of Energy Research and Training, University of Jammu and Geological Society of London as part of the international conference on “Sustainable Resource Development in the Himalaya” concluded today at Nomadic School Puga.
The inauguration was held at Govt Higher Secondary School Nyoma in which 100 students and teachers from Nyoma and Puga Nomadic Schools were present.
The lecture series by Professor G M Bhat on Energy resources, climate change and global warming, and energy efficiency; and by Joel Gill and Rosalie Tostevin of Geological society of London on earthquake risk reduction and knowledge on seismographs and recoding of the seismic activity were the highlights of the programme.
In the interactive sessions, Dr Bindra Thusu and IERT team from Jammu University replied various questions raised by the students.
The students and teachers were given certificates, teaching materials and T-shirts and caps as a promotion material on disaster risk reduction and awareness on climate change.
The 2-day long programme was also attended by the prominent citizens of Nyoma town and officials posted in Nyoma.
On second, the session was held in Nomadic School at Puga in which 120 students and teachers participated.
In addition to the team at Nyoma School, Professor Jow Moore of University of Utah, USA and Asima Thusu from California joined the team. They educated the students and the teachers on geothermal energy and the status of this green energy in Puga Valley.
Dr. Naveen Hakhoo and the IERT team taught the students the tectonic processes that led to the formation of the Himalaya through a model prepared by the IERT team.
