2 CSCs booked for fleecing consumers

JAMMU, May 20: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today booked two Common Service Centres (CSCs) at Rehari for fleecing customers.
According to Deputy Controller Legal Metrology, Enforcement/ Consumer Protection Manoj Prabhakar, acting on the complaints of overcharging from aggrieved consumers by CSCs which are being established by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Unique Identification Authority of India to facilitate the citizens of the country, the officers of Legal Metrology headed by Assistant Controller Kewal Krishan inspected two such centers at Rehari and found the complaints genuine after scrutinizing the records available at these centres.
Theses centre are authorized by Government to provide services such as AADHAR generation, biometric updates, AADHAR search, downloading and printing beside others services such as licenses under FSSAI and PAN cards  and such centers get reimbursed commissions by Government for providing facilities to consumers but these centers were found charging exorbitantly over and above Government approved rates.
Legal Metrology Department conducted a surprise raids and booked two CSCs for alleged violations of rules and regulation and for cheating and fleecing consumers by charging at their whims and fancies that too without issuing any cash memo against money received from consumers, the officer added.
In one such instance, the centre was charging Rs 230 for downloading, searching and printing of AADHAR card whereas Unique Identification Authority of India has approved and fixed the rate of Rs 20 for such service. Similarly, for other services, these centers were also found over-charging. The traders too were forced to pay Rs 200 for uploading the application forms for licenses purposes under FSSAI Act. Infact the Union Government is reimbursing Rs 20 as commission for such services to these centers. The Department has ensured that these centre charge as per the approved Government rates.
He appealed to the general public not to pay any extra amount for availing such services from these centers and in case of any complaint, they are free to call on Toll Free number 1947.
