2 cops attacked by Gujjars, hospitalized

KATHUA, Sept 13: Two cops of Police Station Rajbagh in Kathua district were attacked in village Kote Pannu by Gujjars who inflicted grievous injuries on them today.
The two cops of PS Rajbagh where deployed by SHO Rajbagh to arrest one person in the area against whom police has received an information that he was selling the Chitta in the area.
On the directives of SHO the cops including Constable Koshal Kumar and Balbir Singh left for the village on bike and when they tried to arrest the drug peddler they were attacked by the Gujjars who came from adjoining locality after coming to know that one inmate of the village involved in drug peddling was nabbed by the police.
In the attack both the cops received grievous injuries and they were admitted in Medical College Kathua for treatment.
An FIR under Section 307 has been lodged in Police Post, Mareen in this regard but no arrest has been made so far.
Chowki Officer, Kot Pannu, Sat Paul said that two cops were attacked by the group of Gujjars and inflicted serious injuries when they tried to arrest a drug peddler from the area. He said that the motor cycle of the cops was also snatched by the Gujjars and case has been registered in Police Chowki Mareen in this regard.
