RAMBAN, July 24: Police today foiled a bovine smuggling bid, rescued 2 bovine animals and arrested a smuggler, along with a passenger vehicle from Nowgam area, falling under the jurisdiction of police post Jawahar Tunnel
As per police sources, police team from police post Jawahar Tunnel laid a naka near village Nowgam in the wee hours today and signaled a passenger vehicle (winger) bearing registration number JK01Q-7151 to stop for checking.
During search, police recovered two bovine animals, which the accused was trying to smuggle to Valley.
The driver of the vehicle tried to flee but the team caught him after a chase. The accused has been identified as Javed Ahmed, son of Habibullah Dar of Usmanabad Shalten, Srinagar.
A case under FIR number 82/14 under Section 188, 429 RPC and 3 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Banihal and investigation started.
Police team headed by In-charge police post Jawahar Tunnel SI Afzal Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SSP Ramban Javed Iqbal Mattoo.
