2.66 lakh pay obeisance at Amarnath

SRINAGAR :  Pilgrimage from Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps was going on smoothly to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas 2.66 lakh yatris had paid obeisance till last evening since the commencement of the 45-day-long annual yatra from June 28.    About 11,000 pilgrims had darshan of the self made Ice-Shivlingam in the cave shrine. However, the Ice-Lingam has started melting and now the size has come down mainly because of heavy rush of pilgrims.
Despite cloudy weather with intermittent rain at several places, pilgrims reciting religious songs besides ‘ Bam Bam Bolay and Har Har Mahadev’ left both base camps for the cave shrine, situated at 1,2000 foot above sea level.    Officials said that a fresh batch of pilgrims, including women and sadhus, left Baltal base camp early this morning for the cave shrine.
Similarly, majority of the 11,000 pilgrims who had night halt st cave shrine after paying obeisance yesterday have also started their return journey also prefer to return via Baltal base camp.
They said a fresh batch of yatris also left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp early this morning for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on this route.    Similarly the pilgrims, who had night halt at different halting stations, have also started their journey to holy cave shrine this morning.
