JAMMU, Oct 16: First Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) of the Trigeminal Nerve was performed today by Dr Rohit Lahori, Interventional Pain Specialist, at JK Medicity on a 75-year-old patient.
The patient was suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia. She had unilateral face pain on right side of her face since 7 years. The pain was like electric shock and intermittent in nature, making the life of the patient miserable.
Dr Lahori informed that RFA of Trigeminal Nerve is a percutaneous procedure used to treat Trigeminal Neuralgia, especially so in elderly patients and high risk groups. He said Trigeminal Neuralgia is also known by Suicide disease as many patients have committed suicide because of this disease where pain is unbearable, thus shattering the life of patient.
He said earlier patients needing Radio-frequency procedure had to visit outside J&K for these procedures but they can know avail this facility in the UT itself. He shared that Radio-frequency procedures are helpful in many chronic pain conditions.
