SRINAGAR, Apr 21: The Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities, Syed Shehzadi today said that the Central Government has approved 19 projects worth Rs 314.31 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karykram (PMJVK) for J&K.
Shehzadi was addressing a press conference here during which she said she met with various government officials and visited several schools and health centres and took stock of the situation.
“We discussed certain issues with government officials during the meeting. We discussed the issue of not providing minority certificates to the Sikh community and recommended to the government that Sikhs be granted minority status, “she said.
She said that the centre share for the project approved for J&K is 282 lakhs, and funds totalling 141 lakhs have already been released for projects such as four additional sub-centres, eleven additional classrooms, and four Aganwadi centres in the Rajouri district.
She said that the central government has sanctioned 39 lakhs for free coaching of 50 students in Kashmir. “We have slated 76.94 crores under the pre-matric scholarship scheme for the year 2021-22 and 26.34 crores for the post-matric scholarship,” she said.
She also informed that 31 Kashmiri students have qualified for the Nayi Udan scheme under which the government provides coaching for various competitive exams.
Similarly, she said that nearly 450 people have benefited from the Naye Roshini scheme, for which the central government has allocated approximately 53 crores.
“So far, the government has sanctioned around 35 crores for 2067 benefits through the National Minority Development Corporation.”
