JAMMU, Mar 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma has said that the 19 percent increase in fare and freight charges of all commercial vehicles by the Government is the vindication of the fact of unchecked price rise and the increased burden on common man.
Expressing great concern over the unprecedented price hike of all commodities of common use and record breaking prices of petrol, diesel and LPG, JKPCC chief spokesperson said that rise in fare and freight charges will further lead to hike of all commodities as well as further burden the common man. He said that the consumers shall be at the receiving end for the tax terrorism and uncontrolled inflation in the past few years while the Government is unmoved of the plight and sufferings of the poor and common people.
He lashes out at the Modi Government and the UT Administration for not reducing the heavy Excise duty and VAT on petrol and diesel but transferring the burden to the common people. The transporters too have suffered but it is the consumer who faces the brunt of the wrong policies of the BJP Government.
Sharma said that the BJP Government charges Rs 32.90 Excise duty on petrol per liter and Rs 31.98 on diesel per ltr which is highest so far. He said that a huge amount of VAT is charged by the State/UT Governments least bothering for the plight of poor and common man.
At present India is charging 260 percent tax on base price of petrol and 265 percent on diesel which is highest in the world. Why the Centre Govt and UT Administration not reducing the heavy dose of Excise duty and VAT to lower the burden on the people who are facing worst economy distress in the present times, he questioned and alleged that the BJP Government wants to keep the people on the knees so that they have no capacity to question the wrong policies of the Government.
