JAMMU, June 17: Patron of Tawi Trekkers J&K and former MLA Ashwani Sharma, along with advisor Vivek Chauhan and Principal of MHAC School, Nagbani Sonia Anand, flagged off the 4th group of 182 students, including 98 girls, for the Dharamshala Himalayan Trekking Programme. The group includes 161 students from MHAC School, Nagbani and 21 from JK Montessorie School, Talab Tillo, accompanied by eight teachers.
The trek is being led by Shawetica Khajuria, President of Tawi Trekkers J&K and Amit Khajuria, a veteran organiser. With this, total participation in the Dharamshala programme has reached 400.
Meanwhile, the 3rd group of MHAC students has returned to Jammu after visiting spiritual and heritage sites and completing a soft trek from Bhagsu Nag to Gallu Temple and Dharamkot.
Tawi Trekkers J&K, a non-profit organisation, has been organizing Himalayan trekking programmes since 1994 in Dalhousie, Chamba, Kullu-Manali and Dharamshala. Over 16,000 students have participated so far, gaining exposure to nature away from the city’s hustle.
Additionally, a 10-member team will soon undertake a high-altitude trek to Triund, located at over 10,000 feet in the Dhauladhar range.
