AGRA, Oct 5:
As many as 172 students from Jammu and Kashmir have allegedly been duped into paying a sum of Rs 1.35 lakh each on the promise of admission in the city’s professional colleges.
The students, including 12 girls, arrived here on October 1 carrying admission slips issued by NGO People’s Forum Kashmir. They approached a self-financing college in Nidhauli Kalan in Etah district and RB Institute of Technology on Jalesar Road, but were refused enrolment.
“There appears to be complicity between the NGO and the college administration,” Higher Educational Officer at Agra, Dr Chaman Lal, said.
Director of the NGO Manzoor Ahmed, who was summoned from Kashmir, has claimed that the colleges asked him to send the students, after which they left for Uttar Pradesh.
However, the principal of RB Institute of Technology countered this by saying his college had no information about the admission of the students.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Etmadpur, under whose jurisdiction RB Institute falls, said an inquiry is being conducted into the allegations. (PTI)
