17-years-old boy drowns, body recovered

JAMMU, June 15: A body of a 17-year-old boy, who had drowned last evening in Ranbir Canal in Satwari area of city outskirts, was recovered today.
According to a police spokesman, the boy identified as Rigzin Narboo son of Tsering Tondap, resident of Zanskar (Kargil) along with his elder brother had come here at Jeevan Nagar (Satwari) regarding some work. He said that to get some relief from hot weather conditions both brothers decided to take bath in Ranbir Canal at Jeevan Nagar near Shiksha Niketan School, where Rigzin drowned.
The spokesman said that a team of SDRF, 2nd Battalion Jammu, was put into the rescue operation with Commandant of the Battalion, Stanzin Narboo along with other SDRF senior officers. Deputy SP Sunil Kesar and Deputy SP Madan Mohan themselves were supervising the rescue operation.
“However, the operation had to be suspended late in the evening due to bad light. The operation was again carried out this morning and the body of the boy was fished out by the SDRF Jawans”, the spokesman said, adding after completing all medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
“A case in this connection has been registered at police station Satwari and inquest proceedings initiated under 174 CRPC”, he further added.
