JAMMU, Dec 15: Perturbed over frequent incidents of new born lifting, authorities of Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) hospital are going to install 16 more CCTV cameras to maintain hawk’s eye in every nook and corner of the hospital.
Stealing of newborn babies from Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital has become a routine affair and the hospital administration has been finding it difficult to keep check on the same because of varied reasons.
In order to ensure that such incidents don’t recur in future, the hospital administration has decided to install 16 more CCTV cameras in different parts of the institution. At present, 14 cameras have been installed in various locations, which include CMO office, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Labour Room and main gate.
When contact Deputy Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Dara Singh confirmed that authorities have sanctioned 16 more CCTV cameras, which will be installed very shortly. “We are in the process of identifying the locations where these cameras would be installed”, he added.
“We are also putting up hoardings in every ward of the hospital for awareness of patients and the attendants. We have also directed the incharge of the wards to educate the patients and their attendants against relying on anyone. They have also been asked to impress upon the patients and attendants to inform the hospital administration and police in case suspicious person comes in contact with them”, Dr Singh said.
In response to a question regarding security personnel, the Deputy Medical Superintendent said, “we have written to the Principal for additional security and the same is likely to be provided very shortly”.
Meanwhile, despite lapse of one month police is clueless about the whereabouts of the newly born baby, who was abducted from the SMGS Hospital.
“Eye-witnesses, family members of the abducted baby and officials of Police Department had watched the CCTV footage and also identified the woman but the abductor could not be put behind the bars till date”, sources said.
When contacted concerned police officials said, “we are working on different theories and also conducted raids at many places to arrest the woman, who abducted the newly born baby from the hospital on November 14”, adding “we are hopeful of early arrest of the abductor”.
