UDHAMPUR, June 5: Continuing its offensive against narcotics smugglers, Udhampur Police today arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 156 Kg Poppy Straw from their possession.
A Police party of Police Station Rehmbal, while conducting surprise checking of vehicles at Garnai Chowk on NHW, intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB07AS-0269 and subjected it to thorough search.
During search, police recovered 156 Kg Poppy straw from the vehicle, which was immediately seized. Police also arrested driver of the truck, identified as Bachitar Singh son of Ajit Singh of Gurdaspur Punjab and his associate namely Harpal Singh son of Harjeet Singh of Gurdaspur Punjab. The had procured the contraband from village Sangrama on Baramulla-Sopore Road and were transporting the same to Gurdaspur, Punjab.
The vehicle was also seized and a case FIR No. 82/2017 under relevant sections of law has been registered in this connection at Police Station Rehambal.
