15 Orphanage kids test +ve in Kishtwar

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, Aug 26: In an alarming sign, 15 children aged 8-14 years putting up at a Yateem Foundation in Kishtwar have tested positive for COVID-19 and were isolated.
Health officials told the Excelsior that initially two kids were subjected to testing for COVID-19 as they were symptomatic. One of them tested positive. Later, all children living in the orphanage were tested for pathogen and 15 more today reported positive for the virus.
However, 15 kids who were tested positive today were asymptomatic.
“All of them have been isolated at the orphanage itself,” the officials said.
The Yateem Foundation and its surroundings have been declared as Containment Zone by Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ashok Sharma.
As per the officials, the orphanage children had also attended an Army function at Kishtwar helipad during Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The Army personnel will also be tested for the virus, they said.
Meanwhile, 84 persons today tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir, 17 in Jammu and 15 in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Kathua and Samba districts didn’t report any fresh cases today.
As against 17 new cases, 33 persons recovered from the virus.
Jammu region’s Corona count now stood at 1,22,878. Among them, 338 are active positive cases while 1,20,377 have recovered from the virus and there were 2163 casualties.
The Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 15 fresh cases of Coronavirus including 12 in Leh district and three in Kargil.
Ladakh now has 64 active positive cases.
