15 left in fray in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Apr 11:
After the nomination paper of one Independent candidate was rejected, only 15 candidates are left in the fray for Srinagar Parliamentary constituency going to the polls on April 30.
Tomorrow is the last date for withdrawal of candidature in the constituency.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded cancellation of papers of Union Minister and ruling National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah alleging that the sitting MP from Srinagar has given misleading information about his age in his nomination.
An official spokesman said 16 candidates, including Dr Abdullah, seeking re-election, Opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Tariq Hamid Qarra, AAP candidate Raja Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Fayaz Ahmad Bhat have filed their nomination papers.    He said scrutiny of nomination papers filed by the candidates for Srinagar seat was conducted under the supervision of Returning Officer Srinagar constituency Farooq Ahmad Shah.
Fifteen nominations filed by the contesting candidates were found correct while the nomination papers submitted by an Independent candidate Nisar Ahmad Ahanger were found incomplete and were rejected.
As such 15 candidates are now in fray for Srinagar Parliamentary constituency.
AAP in the complaint alleged that Dr Abdullah has mentioned his age as 66 during 2008 elections. However, he has now mentioned his age as 76 years now. (UNI)
