RAJOURI, June 29: Police on Monday early morning foiled two separate bovine smuggling bids in Doongi Keri area of Rajouri and rescued 15 cattle from the possession of smugglers.
Police said that a team headed by Chatyar police post incharge SI Sukhvir Singh under the supervision of SHO Rajouri, Sameer Jillani during patrolling on Kallar- Keri road in the wee hours of Monday morning, noticed vehicle No. JK11B/ 1528 and intercepted it at Keri bridge. It was coming from Dhara Sambla side.
Seven bovines were found loaded in the said vehicle which were rescued and vehicle seized. Bovine smuggler Mohammad Akhter, son of Nazeer Hussain, resident of Galuti in Manjakote was arrested on the spot.
Another police team during naka on Chiti Bakri road in Chatiyari area spotted a vehicle coming from LoC road near Basali and signalled to stop but driver of the vehicle parked the vehicle at some distance and escaped from the spot taking advantage of darkness.
Vehicle bearing registration No. JK02AN/ 4127 was taken into possession by police and eight bovines were found loaded in it which were rescued. The police said that two cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in Rajouri Police Station in this connection.
