70-year-old man dies, Corona toll rises to 28

Srinagar, May 29: Nine members of a family and four pregnant women were among 149 people who tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir today, however, some of them were already positive cases and were retested, taking the Jammu and Kashmir Corona positive cases to 2221.
And a day after his death, samples of a 70-year-old man from South Kashmir’s Shopian district tested positive for the Coronavirus, taking the Jammu and Kashmir death toll to 28.
A 70-year old man from Aliarpora, Bagander Shopian was admitted on May 27 as pneumonia patient with underlying hypertension and diabetes mellitus. He died at SMHS hospital last evening and today his sample tested positive for COVID-19.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan, told Excelsior that 1430 samples were processed at the viral diagnostic lab today and 58 tested positive.
He said that among them, 27 are from Srinagar, 19 from Kulgam, four from Kupwara, seven from Baramulla and one from Pulwama.
The cases from Srinagar tested at SKIMS include men aged 67, 60, 42, 48, 25, 24, 50, 50, 52, 51, 40, 38, 23, 40, 70, 28 and 58 years from Amda Kadal, Lal Bazar, Bemina, Nawa Kadal, Bemina, Solina, Nowhatta, Hawal, Hazratbal, Lal Bazar, Hawal, Hawal, Nowhatta, Bucchapora, Lal Nagar Chanpora, Hyderpora and Karfali Mohalla respectively and women aged 27, 28, 25, 45, 48, 7, 9, 32 and 37 years from Abi Guzar, Eidgah, Bemina, Bemina, Qamarwari, Bemina, Bemina, Bemina and Nawa Kadal respectively.
And those from Kulgam include men aged 60, 7 52, 45, 22, 18, 32, 9 and 49 from Chattabal, Nursingpora and Manzgam and women aged 45, 18, 50, 31, 40, 25, 40, 25, 23 and 28 from Chattabal and Nursingpora.
Similarly, cases from Kulgam belonged to Chattabal, one from Police Station Manzgam, and Nursingpora while Kupwara cases from Hyhama.
Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at the Government Medical College Srinagar, told Excelsior that out of 842 samples processed at Microbiology Lab at CD hospital, 58 tested positive.
They include 17 from Anantnag including 9 from a family in Cherward Kokernag and 4 pregnant women, 17 from Pulwama, 15 from Kupwara, three from Srinagar and one each from Bandipora, Ganderbal and Shopian. The pregnant women include 25-year-old woman from Anchabal, 31-year-old from Brenti, 33-year-old Chaki Wanhama and 35-year-old Geebum Dooru.
Dr Riyaz Untoo, Principal SKIMS Bemina said that out 274 samples processed at the hospital’s diagnostic laboratory, 33 came out to be positive. Among the cases, there were cases of retest.
Officials said 11 COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir today.
They said till date 158773 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 34495 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by Government, 54 in Hospital Quarantine, 1261 in hospital isolation and 41525 under home surveillance. Besides, 81410 persons have completed their surveillance period.
