About 13,400 Burmees, Bangladeshis staying in J&K; 10 booked under PSA

SRINAGAR, June 7: About 13,400 nationals of Burmees and Bangladesh are staying in different camps in Jammu and Kashmir, where some NGOs and other organisations are extending help in cash and kind.
This information was given by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds the portfolio of Home, in reply to a question by Pawan Kumar Gupta, in the Legislative Assembly here. Mr Gupta, an independent member from Udhampur in Jammu region, has asked for the number of foreigners, especially Burmees (Myanmar) and Bangladeshis staying at various places in Jammu and Kashmir.
He has further asked their object of stay in the state. The reply confirmed that there are 13,384 foreigners staying in the State out of whom 10 Tohingya Muslims have been arrested under Public Safety Act (PSA), three are undertrials and 14 Muslims have married. Highest number of 686 are staying in Bathindi Ka Plot while lowest 25 in Marathi Mohalla in Jammu district.
The reply said that in Samba district, the highest number of 260 are staying in Teli Basti Bari Brahmana and lowest Chak Manga Sama eleven. In Ladakh region, as many as 646 foreigners are staying at Choglamsar  and lowest five at Chushul, the reply said. It further said that there is no report of them crossing over to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
However, strict vigil is being maintained on the activities of foreigners and Rohingyas to avoid any untoward incident. To a question by Mr Gupta whether it is a fact that some organisations are getting funds from abroad to radicalise the foreigners, the reply came in negative.
However, one NGO working under the title “Sakhawat” run by Mohammad Ul-Umar alongwith Dr Rashid and another NGO” S R Institute of Development ” have been helping the Rohingyas in cash and kind from time to time. Strict vigil is being kept on the activities of these Rohingyas, the reply said.
