JAMMU, Mar 26: Government today said that it has set up 113 new police posts and 20 police stations in the State during last three years.
In a written reply to the question of NC member Aijaz Ahmed Jan in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that 113 new police posts have been set up in the State during last three years, adding 20 new police stations have been created by upgrading police posts during the same period.
The highest number of 13 police posts have been created in Jammu district, followed by 12 such posts in Reasi district, 11 in Kishtwar, 10 in Kulgam, 8 in Bandipora districts and six each in Anantnag, Samba and Doda districts. Similarly, five each new police posts have been created in Ganderbal and Ramban districts.
“The creation of new police stations and posts is not carried on the constituency basis but on the requirement of different areas taking into consideration their population graph, crime rate, accessibility to existing police units and demographical complexion”, he said, adding “no fire and emergency station have been sanctioned in the State during last three year and there is no proposal for establishment of additional fire and emergency station in Poonch Assembly segment as the area is already catered by stations in Mandi and Poonch”.
