13 kg heroin, 20 kg poppy straw recovered; three drug peddlers held

JAMMU, Feb 7: Jammu police today achieved a big success by arresting two drug peddlers with huge consignment of 13 kg heroin and 20-kg poppy straw.
Two passengers who were travelling in a bus coming from Srinagar to Jammu were arrested at Nagrota this afternoon with 13 kg heroin while 20 kg poppy straw was recovered from one drug peddler at Sidhra in Nagrota area.
During a surprise check point at Nagrota at around 3: 45 PM, a bus (JK01AC-3136) coming from Srinagar was stopped for checking. During checking of a passenger namely Raja Kursheed, 39, son of Ghulam Akber, resident of Titwal, Tangdhar, Kupwara, eight packets of heroin was recovered from him while five packets of heroin, was recovered from Mohamma Ashraf Khan, 60, son of Sher Ali Khan, resident of Kachama, Kupwara.
Police said that total contraband heroin weighing 13 kg was seized on the spot. In this connection, a case under NDPS Act was registered at police station Nagrota and investigation started. The street value of the drug seized is about Rs 65 crore, police added.
The recovery was made under the supervision of SSP Jammu, Vivek Gupta, SP Rural, Shivdeep Singh Jamwal and SP Operation, Jammu, Vinay Kumar Sharma.
Meanwhile in a separate incident, police caught a person who was going towards Sidhra on foot under suspicious circumstances and recovered 20 kg poppy straw from his possession. The arrested person was identified as Akhter Ahmed, son of Wali Mohammad, resident of Thathri, tehsil Baksoo, district Doda. The police had registered a case under NDPS Act and started investigations.
