JAMMU, Nov 14: The 124th birth anniversary of Jawahar Lal Nehru popularly known as “Children Day” was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal.
Floral tributes were paid to Jawahar Lal Nehru in a function held at Pradesh Congress Committee headquarter, Shaheedi Chowk. The function was attended by senior functionaries of PCC, DCC, BCC, Mahila Congress, Ward Presidents, INTUC, Seva Dal, Youth Congress and NSUI. The function was presided over by Dharma Pal Sharma, Ex-MP and Mangat Ram Sharma, Former Deputy Chief Minister was the chief guest. The speakers in their speeches threw light on the life and teachings of Jawahar Lal Nehru.
National Panthers Party (NPP) also paid tributes to Jawahar Lal Nehru. In their rich tributes to Nehru, NPP speakers described Nehru as an undaunted ambassador of peace and a great visionary and statesman. Chief Patron of NPP Prof Bhim Singh highlighted the unique contributions of Jawahar Lal Nehru towards world peace, strengthening of Non-Aligned Movement and raising India’s image among the high profile industrial nations.
District Congress Seva Dal Jammu Urban celebrated birth anniversary of Jawahar Lal Nehru at Government Middle School Shaheedi Chowk under the leadership of BS Sambyal, State Chief Congress Seva Dal. On the occasion, sweets and notebooks were distributed among the children. The function was organised by SK Bhagat, Deputy Chief Urban.
KCS College of Education celebrated birth anniversary of Jawahar Lal Nehru. On the occasion, programme officer of NSS unit Ruchika Chib and Principal Prof OP Sharma threw light on the importance of the day. Students performed various events. US Chaudhri, President of the Kalamkari Centre Society (Women) and Purnima Chaudhri, Chairperson of the College were also present.
Sacred Heart College of Education, Paloura organized a debate competition and quiz competition on the eve of Children Day on the theme “Environment Awareness and various Educational Policies”. Sixty questions were prepared by the subject teachers in order to update the knowledge of the students. The quiz was conducted by Prof Sonika Anand. Chairman Hari Singh Chib and Principal Dr KK Tiwari distributed prizes among the winners.

DPS Udhampur celebrated Children Day in a grand way in the premises of the School today. The assembly started with a prayer which was done by the choir of teachers. Rich Harvest School celebrated Children week ‘Spardha’ under the guidance of Ruchi Charak, Trustee on the eve of ‘Children Day’. Euro Care Pre School, Trikuta Nagar visited Balidan Stambh with children and staff on the eve of Children Day. A display dedicated to Jawahar Lal Nehru depicting his life and works was shown to children. The students were apprised about the role played by Jawahar Lal Nehru in freedom struggle. Sweets were distributed among the students by the Principal.
Kidzee celebrated Children Day at its all branches–Anand Nagar Bohri, Gandhi Nagar and Channi Himmat. On the occasion, various sports activities were organized, in which students participated actively. In the end, sweets were distributed among the students.

Nehru Yuva Kendra Kathua also celebrated the Children’s Day as the Day coincides with its Foundation Day also. On the occasion a symposium on the topic Nationalist vision of Children was held in which the students of the institute took part.
On the occasion of Children’s Day a legal awareness camp was organized in the premises of Government High School Sarna tehsil and district Samba today under the chairmanship of Inder Singh, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Session Judge) Samba in collaboration with S S Bali, Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee( Sub Judge / CJM Samba. On the occasion Miss Geeta Kumari Munsiff Judicial Magistrate, ISt Class Samba apprised the children of their duties.
SBI Swankha today donated water purifier to Government High School Saidgarh on the occasion of Children’s Day in presence of Headmaster Sushila Gupta and other school staff members as a part of Corporate Social responsibility. Speaking on the occasion Branch Manager SBI Swankha Nidi Anand highlighted the role of the Bank in providing drinking water in the schools especially in rural areas.
Children’s Day and Bal Diwas which coincides with the birthday of Pandit Nehru was celebrated with gaiety and fevour under the patronage of Anshul Chachra, president Family Welfare Organization (FWO) Northern Command. Forty five children from Udhampur based ASHA School and 40 children from the Drona Hostel participated in the function at Tara Mount official residence of Army Commander at Udhampur Garrison today.

The speakers in their speeches spoke regarding various environmental problems and emphasized on the need of spreading moral values in society to prevent crime. McDonald’s, Residency Road celebrated Children Day with children from Apexcel Indo British Kids. A fun filled event was organized wherein parents of the kids were invited at McDonald to party, play and create an unforgettable exciting celebration with their wards marking the day.
The event started with a sketching competition in which Hargun, Rigiv, Pranet, Abhiraj, Manjot, Saarika and Zeeshan were the star performers.
