AKHNOOR, Aug 26: At least a dozen youth were injured in police lathi-charge during BSF recruitment rally on Sohal road here this morning.
The incident took place when about 1000 youth from Jammu district entered the main gate of the rally venue for physical tests. About 3000 youth could not get inside and they resorted to violent activities. Some of them also resorted to shouting slogans and indulged in stone pelting.
The police had already been deployed there to assist the BSF jawans for the recruitment. The cops resorted to mild lathi-charge on the youth. Some youth while running got trapped in concertina wire and sustained injuries and some fell down. At least a dozen of them were injured in police action. All the youth were allowed to enter the gate, turn by turn in groups during the day for the measurements/ ground test.
SHO Akhnoor, Pushvider Kumar said that some boys indulged in stone pelting and violence and the cops had to resort to mild cane charge. It became hard to control over 4000 boys at the gate. He said most of the boys while running got trapped in concertina wire and got some injuries.
