100 JK youth get jobs in corporate world

NEW DELHI, Apr 11:
More than 100 educated youth from Jammu and Kashmir were employed in corporate sector and 100 more are in the process of getting jobs across India under a centrally-sponsored special industry initiative called ‘Udaan’.
The scheme, launched last year by the then Home Minister P Chidambaram, aimed at providing employment oriented training for about 8000 youth from Jammu and Kashmir over five years covering various sectors like business management, software and BPOs and facilitating jobs for them.
Home Ministry sources said those who got jobs so far are mostly in software companies, BPOs and companies affiliated to Confederation of Indian Industries while private banks and public sector enterprises have promised to hire 100 trained youth.
An expert group constituted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh under the chairmanship of C Rangarajan to formulate a job plan for Jammu and Kashmir had recommended the scheme.
About eight corporates had entered into an agreement with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for providing employment oriented training for 8000 youth.
As per the scheme, the identified companies are screening and selecting students from the State. The duration, place and nature of training are decided by the company after considering the profile of the candidates and their skills.
After completion of the training, the company are taking necessary measures for placement of the trainees in association with NSDC.
The Central Government is bearing the expenditure of travel from Jammu and Kashmir to training destinations, boarding and lodging, stipend and placement fee in respect of trainees.
Corporate firms are bearing the cost of training. In case the trainee is employed by the same corporate for minimum one year, 50 per cent of the training cost or Rs 62,500 whichever is less will be reimbursed to the corporate. The total budget of the scheme is Rs 1000 crore in five years.
As per the approved proposal, the Future Group will impart training to 1150 youth in five years on retail sector, the CII will provide managerial and entrepreneurship skills to 1000 youth in five years while Tata Consultancy Services will train 850 youth in five years on IT & BPO.
While Wipro to give training to 4390 youth on International Voice & Non Voice Customer Service, back office Transaction Processing, Domestic Voice and Non Voice Customer Service, Technical Process in five years, HCL Infosystems Ltd will train 400 youth on sales and ICT infrastructure maintenance and management and Infosys Ltd to train 100 youth on IT.
Rai Foundation will impart training to 100 youth on IT, ITEs, Retail, Management, Hospitality, Tourism, real estate, media, entertainment, textile, education and IISD will train 300 youth on computerised numerical control, machine operators and programmers and techno-commercial programme.
Captains of the industry like Ratan Tata, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Deepak Parekh and Rajeev Bajaj also had visited Jammu and Kashmir in October 2011 at the initiative of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi to invest in the state. (PTI)
