LUCKNOW : More than 10 million devotees today took holy dip in different rivers in Uttar Pradesh on the Makar Sankranti day.
The festival is being celebrated for two days in the state — today and tomorrow.
Devotees thronged the rivers in different places in the state to bath on the occasion.
In Allahabad, Makar Sankranti was the second main bathing day during the annual Magh Mela, where around 15 lakhs dipped in the holy Sangam the confluence of Yamuna, Ganga and mythological Saraswati. Around 50 lakh people are expected to bath during the two-day Makar Sankranti. Reports of lakhs of people taking dip in Saryu river in Ayodhya, Mandakani river in Chitrakoot, Yamuna in Mathura, Ganga in Varanasi and Garh Mukteshwar were received. In Lucknow too, people bathed in Gomti river on the day. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere so far, officials said.
