10 kg charas seized, 2 held

JAMMU, Jan 13: About 10 kilograms of charas has been seized and two narcotic smugglers including a forest guard arrested from Dogra Chowk, falling under the jurisdiction of Nowabad police station.
A police spokesman said that, on specific inputs, police party from Nowabad police station led by SHO Jai Pal Sharma laid a naka at Dogra Chowk and intercepted two persons, who were moving suspiciously.
During checking, 1.8 kilograms of charas was recovered from their possession and they were arrested by the police.
The narcotics smugglers have been identified as Saif Ali, son of Ghulam Hassan of Kalakote, district Rajouri and Vinod Kumar, son of Som Nath of Hazuri Bagh, Talab Tillo and a guard in the Forest Department.
During questioning, they revealed that charas weighing 8 kilograms has been kept in the hidden chamber of the Tata Indica car bearing registration number JK11-5496, which was parked at exhibition ground.
Police team during search of the said vehicle recovered the consignment from the safe chamber made in the dickey of the car.
Saif Ali used to purchase the charas from Manzoor Ahmed of Brijbehara, Anantnag and later smuggle the same to Jammu for further distribution among smugglers here.
A case under FIR number 6/14 under Section 8/20/21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Nowabad police station and further investigation into the case is going on.
