BHADERWAH, Mar 5: An elderly person was killed while five of his family members were injured when the car they were travelling in veered off a road and plunged into deep gorge near Seri village.
As per police sources, a Hyundai i10 car bearing registration number JK06-7199 skidded off the road after colliding with another vehicle coming from opposite direction and fell into a 300-feet deep gorge into Neru river.
The family which was on its way to Bhaderwah after attending a pilgrimage at Beas in Punjab met with an accident near Seri village on Doda-Bhaderwah Highway at 11 am.
On getting information, police team along with locals immediately reached the spot and retrieved all the six persons including a toddler from the damaged vehicle.
The victims were rushed to a District Hospital, where doctors declared the elderly man as brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Swami Raj (75), son of Budha Ram, a resident of Lamot-Dranga of Bhaderwah.
The injured have been identified as Vidya Devi (35), wife of Kuldeep Kumar, her daughter Diwanshi Devi (2), Rameshwari Devi (60), wife Swami Raj, Anu Radha (37), wife of Vijay Kumar and HoD Urdu PG College Bhaderwah Prof Satish Kumar (38), son of Giyan Chand, all residents of Lamote-Dranga of Bhaderwah.
A case has been registered at Bhaderwah Police Station to establish the cause of the accident.
