JAMMU: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali today informed that 1.9 lakh Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in the State have so far received LPG connections under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme.
The Minister informed this while addressing a meeting convened to review the implementation of the scheme in the State.
It was informed in the meeting that the oil companies were given a target to provide the gas connections to 2.25 lakh households in the State till December 31, 2016. So far, 3.06 lakh KYC forms have been filled by the consumers, out of which 2.45 lakh cases have been cleared. It was further revealed that out of them, 1.9 lakh families have been provided with LPG connections.
Reviving the targets for the oil companies, the Minister asked the representatives to ensure that 4.25 lakh KYCs are done by end of March this year, while for Subscription Verifications (SVs), the target was set at 3.40 lakh.
Stressing on the need to expedite the process, the Minister said it is important that targets are met well within time as the present dispensation wants to ensure that people across the State, irrespective of their economic backgrounds, use clean fuel. For ensuring this, proper implementation of scheme is must, he added.
The Minister issued instructions to ensure that the benefit of the scheme reaches deserving people only. He asked the representatives to ensure that a strict check is put to ensure that no affluent family receives the gas connection under the scheme.
He said the scheme is not meant for affluent class and added that whether the applicant is a doctor, engineer or any legislator, should be denied the connection under the scheme. Our aim should be to ensure that the benefit of the scheme reaches deserving people only, he added.
Secretary, FCS&CA Shafiq Raina, Director FCS&CA, Jammu G S Chib, Joint Controller, Legal Metrology Department, Jammu V S Sambyal, Joint Controller, Legal Metrology Department, Kashmir Amar Singh, Deputy Controller Manoj Prabakhar, Senior Regional Manager HPCL along with representatives from oil companies attended the meeting.
