1.8 mn Afghans have returned from Iran in past three months

KABUL, July 30: The Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation in a statement today said that nearly 1.8 million Afghan refugees have returned home from Iran over the past three months.
Mawlawi Abdul Rahman Rashid, deputy minister of the ministry, said that in addition, 184,459 refugees have returned from Pakistan and 5,134 from T rkiye in the past four months.
“We currently have around six million Afghan refugees living abroad and 2.5 million internally displaced persons within the country,” Rashid added.
According to the official, there were 38 designated townships for refugees across 29 provinces.
To support returnees and displaced families, the ministry has signed 125 memoranda of understanding with both domestic and international organisations in the past year, with a total value exceeding USD 78 million.
The Afghan interim government has called on Afghan refugees to return home to contribute to the rebuilding of the country.
