Zorawar demands law on drug abuse

JAMMU, Feb 11: Passing of resolution by voice-vote seeking eradication of drug addiction by legislators cutting across party lines in the Legislative Assembly has finally vindicated the stand of Team Jammu that growing menace of drug addiction is taking heavy toll on the society especially the youth.
Right from the day one of its formation, members of Team Jammu have raised their voice demanding a debate in Legislative Council as well as in Legislative Assembly and amendment in existing laws to strictly deal with drug traffickers that are spoiling the future of younger generation.
An emergent meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Zorawar Singh Jamwal, during which, the members hailed all those legislators including that of opposition Congress and National Conference as well as some of BJP, MLAs who, yesterday, passed the Private Member resolution by voice-vote, seeking eradication of drug addiction and taking strict measure to the check them menace.
While addressing the members, Chairman Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal stated that passing of resolution in Legislative Assembly against growing drug menace has vindicated the stand of Team Jammu. “What our legislators, belonging to different political parties said and discussed yesterday in the Legislative Assembly, is exactly what we have been saying in past over four years, spreading awareness among the masses that if the menace remains unchecked, it will take heavy toll on the society especially the youth”.
“We appreciate the Legislators, who took the voice of Team Jammu from streets of the region to Legislative Assembly urging the State Government to come up with more strong laws to punish the drug mafia. We have been continuously demanding in past over four years to set up of Drug de-addiction centres at district level, kick starting awareness programmes at school level, formation of special squads to check the menace, special instructions to Police and formulation of strict laws in this regard,” pointed out Jamwal and further demanded that “Now when entire House has unanimously showed its concern over the growing drug menace, the time has come when State Government must respond positively as well as without wasting more time to bring a Bill in Assembly so that stringent Laws are made to nail down influential drug lords carrying out anti-social as well as anti national activities in the State”.
“It will be of no good for the society if Government fails to make stringent laws to curb drug menace. The future generation can’t be saved from the clutches of drug mafia until and unless, a stringent law comes in force,” said Zorawar Singh Jamwal adding that “Team Jammu will not stop its crusade against drug menace till entire State and especially Jammu Province becomes a drug free zone.”
