Zinc futures up on global cues, spot demand

NEW DELHI, Sept 30: Zinc futures prices today edged up by 0.39 per cent to Rs 141.80 per kg today as participants created speculative positions, amid a firm global trend and better domestic demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in October increased by 55 paise, or 0.39 per cent, to Rs 141.80 per kg, with a business turnover of 205 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in current month traded higher by 50 paise, or 0.35 per cent, to Rs 141.45 per kg in a turnover of 178 lots.

Traders said besides improved spot demand, a firming trend in base metals overseas on speculation that demand for the metal used to galvanise steel will out-pace supply, mainly led to the rise in zinc prices at futures trade here.

Globally, zinc for delivery in three months rose as much as USD 15 to USD 2,305 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange. (PTI)
