Zanskar delegation calls on Sitharaman, projects demands

JAMMU, Feb 10: A delegation from Zanskar led by Thupstan Chhewang, Member of Parliament (Ladakh) and Stanzin Lhakpa, BJP leader from Zanskar called on Nirmala Sitharaman, Defence Minister, in her office chamber of Indian Parliament.
The delegation requested the Defence Minister to release the amount of Rs 1700 crore which was announced for the already sanctioned tunnel at Shingula on Nimoo-Padum-Darcha (NPD) Road.
After giving a patient hear to the delegation, the Defence Minister assured her personal intervention in the NPD Project. She also assured to connect Padam to Darcha during coming summer season and made commitment to visit Zanskar to inaugurate the road in July end.
The delegation also called on TT Negi, Chief Engineer, National Highway at Transport Bhawan in New Delhi and requested to speed up the construction work on (Sankoo-Padam) NH301. The delegation also requested the authority to accord additional funds for maintenance and repair of the existing road. The delegation further requested the Authority for creation of a special NH Division to supervise on NH301.
The Chief Engineer assured to provide additional funds for repair and maintenance of the existing road between Kargil and Zanskar for the comfort of the travelers till the ongoing works of National Highway is completed. He also assured to depute one Chief Engineer from Nation Highway at Kargil to supervise the ongoing works of NH 301.
The delegation further asked the authorities to sanction a steel bridge along with link road to Pishu village and link road around Padam and Karsha to Hongchot – Youltsum. The officer assured to fulfill all the demands accordingly.
The delegation was comprised of Stanzin Norbu, former Councilor, Geshay Gelak Tsetan, Namgyal Phuntsok, president, BJYM Zanskar and Dorjay Gonbo.
