JAMMU, Oct 30: 3-day Yuva Lekhak Seminar by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages began here today at K L Saigal Hall in the Academy Complex.
Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, formally inaugurated the seminar while Khalid Hussain, eminent Punjabi and Urdu short-story writer, presided over the inaugural session. Dr Baljeet Kaur, HoD Punjabi, JU, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, JKAACL and Dr Baljeet Raina were also present in the presidium. This seminar was organized with the support of Departments of Dogri, Hindi and Punjabi, University of Jammu. Today’s seminar was in Punjabi language on the topic-“The Punjabi literature of Jammu and Kashmir”.
While delivering his presidential address, Khalid Hussain said that to become a successful creative writer and critic, the basic requirement is the habit of studying more and more literature not only of the respective language but others also. He further said that the active participation of youth in such functions will help a lot to produce new creative writers and scholars which is the immediate requirement of present times.
Prof R D Sharma stressed upon the scholars that they must seriously involve themselves in the creative writing process of the respective languages. While speaking about the publication of special issues of Sheeraza, a bi-monthly journal in nine languages, he suggested that this publication is nationally reputed and the academy should make it as a referred journal. He also suggested that the lingual analysis of the languages spoken in Jammu region like Dogri, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu should also be done as a combined research project by the scholars of the languages concerned.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, JKAACL said that this 3-day Yuva Lekhak Seminar has now became a regular activity and will definitely be fruitful for the scholars and the literature being written in the Jammu region. The first session was presided over by Dr Monojit, eminent Punjabi writer and president, Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Jammu while the second session was presided over by Dr Baljit Kaur. Today 14 scholars of Punjabi Department presented their research papers.
