JAMMU, May 4: Yudhvir Sethi, J&K BJP vice president today called for creating adequate opportunities for specially-abled persons to grow as proud and useful citizens in the society rather than taking pity on them which saps their morale.
The senior BJP leader was speaking during a function organized at Village Dhammi in Jagti near here, today. During the programme, Abha Jamwal, ex-Sarpanch, Rattan Singh, Raj Singh, Girdhari Lal and others were also present.
On the occasion, Yudhvir distributed wheelchairs and crutches among the needy people as promised by him.
Addressing the gathering, Yudhvir said society has to play a pivotal role towards empowerment and emancipation of specially-abled people so that they give their best in return and don’t become a burden.
“It’s imperative that we shift our focus from sympathy to empowerment. Specially-abled individuals are not looking for pity; they deserve equal opportunities to contribute to society and realize their full potential,” he added.
Sethi observed that disability in any form is not a curse but a condition like any other condition among so-called normal people, which does not bar them from progression in their chosen fields. He referred to the contribution of differently abled people towards upliftment of society from times immemorial and said with the advent of age and technological advancement they have proved second to none.
Sethi also highlighted the various welfare schemes initiated by the Modi Government to support differently-abled individuals across the nation. He commended the Government’s efforts in ensuring inclusive growth and development, providing avenues for education, employment, and healthcare for persons with disabilities.
The senior BJP leader reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment in advocating for the rights and welfare of differently-abled individuals in Jammu & Kashmir and beyond. He urged stakeholders to work collaboratively towards creating a more inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can thrive.
