JAMMU, June 30: Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) today paid rich tributes to Maharaja Gulab Singh on his 160th death anniversary here at SMGS Hospital, Shalamar.
A large number of Rajput youths from all the area was present on the occasion and raised slogans in the praise of Maharaja Gulab Singh and garlanded his statue.
Speaking on the occasion, YRS president, Rajveer Singh, said that Maharaja Gulab Singh was the founder and first Maharaja of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, the second largest princely state in British India, which was created after the defeat of sikhs in the first Anglo-Sikh War.
Rajveer Singh said that Maharaja Gulab Singh was a great ruler and he is an example of unity and integrity. He increased the boundaries of the J&K to Gilgit, Skardu and Baltistan and Tibet. He said that Maharaja Gulab Singh was an inspiration for the unity of Dogra community and we shall make him the role model for our lives.
He also added that this day has its own importance, which remembers them their duties towards all the Rajputs and the people of the State in general. He said that birthday and death anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh should be declared as public holiday in the State and rallies as well as processions should be organized on this day. He also threw light on the work of social welfare during the rule of Maharaja Gulab Singh in the State.
Those who were present on the occasion were Ranjeet Singh, Mohinder Singh, Yashwant Singh, Ramesh Singh, Rajan Singh, Mukesh Singh, Brinder Pratap Singh and many others.
