YRS, KBM take out protest rally against illegal garbage dumping by JMC

JAMMU, Apr 9: Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) and Kandi Belt Movement (KBM) jointly held a strong protest demonstration cum rally against Jammu Municipal Corporation for illegal dumping of city garbage in Kot Bhalwal area.
Hundreds of people today gathered at Kanger Morh, Bhalwal and started raising slogans against illegal dumping of hazardous garbage by JMC in populated area of Kot Bhalwal. The protest was led by KD Singh, president, KBM and Surinder Singh Gilli, ex-president, Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) and social worker.
Later, protesting people took out a rally from Kanger Morh, which after passing through Kot, Raipur, Bantalab, Roop Nagar, Barnai, Patoli, Domana and Mishriwala, culminated back at Kanger Morh. During the rally, the members of Yuva Rajput Sabha and KBM sent back vehicles of municipality loaded with hazardous waste which is illegally being thrown at Bhalwal near Degree College Mishriwala. In a protest, all shops of the area right from Kangar Morh to Raipur also remained closed.
Addressing the gathering, Surinder Singh Gilli said that the residents living in surrounding villages near illegal garbage dumping site have been protesting for last more than one month but Government is not paying any heed to their genuine demand. Poor people are protesting for their fundamental rights against dumping of garbage in violation of rules of Pollution Control Board, he added.
He further added that public is fighting for their fundamental right to live in a pollution free area. Hundreds of poor ladies, students and general public are on road but the Government is not bothered to even listen to the problem of local people.
Addressing the protesting people, KD Singh said this area is a residential area and dumping of garbage is in violation of rules of Pollution Control Board. He also said that this dumping of garbage is illegal and against fundamental rights of public at large.
At last Gilli warned administration that if dumping of garbage is not stopped by the JMC, the stir would be intensified and Government would be responsible for any untoward incident. He further assured the KBM their full support for stoppage of illegal garbage dumping.
