Srinagar, Dec 7: Top officers, legal experts, members of a non-governmental organisation and students today joined the day-long deliberations on ‘responsibilities of youth towards a healthy society’ at the University of Kashmir.
The discussions took place as part of the “Youth Seminar-2022,” which was put on by the university’s school of law in association with SACPPE, a non-governmental organisation with Omar Bhat as vice president that promotes youth welfare.
KU Registrar Dr Nisar A. Mir emphasised the necessity to “return to the value system that we previously loved in our society” to combat social ills like drug usage.
He said law professionals and students have a greater responsibility to share on this front “given their involvement in all spheres of life, both within and beyond the courts”.
The evolution of a society, according to Prof. M. Ayub, a former head and dean of the School of Law, begins with the instruction provided to children at home.
“Problems generally start from homes and go down to the society and have an impact on the nation as well. Half the population in our country falls in the youth bracket which indicates why youth energies need to be channelised in the right direction for nation-building,” Prof Ayub said.
