Children in the formative years have tremendous assimilation power besides being curious to know about everything. But they are generally underestimated by their parents who keep telling them to cram the textbooks and get good marks in examinations instead of guiding them to do something creative.
The authors of this book, Krishna, Ishaan and Dashea Sharma, are students themselves. They have listed the problems they face in day-to-day life and given useful solutions using a small electronic board called Arduino Board. They themselves have found solutions to many problems using this board.
Unique Device
Arduino is a small electronic board which comes in the category of single board computers (SBC). Its cost is as low as Rs. 450/- in some shops. One can write a simple code (program) for this board and make innumerous projects which could be for fun or giving solutions to societal problems.
The authors noticed the wastage of tremendous amount of electricity when they saw community streetlights still glowing even during daytime because no one had bothered to switch these off in the morning. Sometimes, they found the streets dark during the night as no one had turned these lights on.
Problem Solving
The authors solved this problem by using Arduino board and a light sensor. It senses the ambient light and switches on/off the streetlights during dusk/dawn, automatically, without human intervention, thus saving huge amount of electricity.
They also made an ear-testing machine in less than Rs. 700/-. They used Arduino board and a buzzer to generate various tones (audio frequencies). This device was successfully tested on a patient and found successful.
Students are Authors
All the three authors are college/school students. They understand the students’ psyche and accordingly have written the book in a very simple language. They have emphasized that the students should not get afraid of coding. It is very simple and takes just a week or so to learn it.
This way they have listed around 10 odd projects starting from lighting a small LED to finally making a robot, a remotely driven car, an obstacle sensing gadget to stop the moving car on seeing an obstacle ahead and warning the driver etc.
This book prompts the students to look around for the problems or difficulties around us, use their talents to find solutions.
A good book which is bound to motivate the school and college students to look beyond their routine class syllabi and rise to higher levels. This book is strongly recommended for students of senior secondary schools and science/engineering colleges. This book is listed with amazon.uk.co, flipkart.in and notionpress.com
