KATHUA, Jan 1: A youth has been murdered by his cousin over a land dispute in Kathua town here.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Sohan Singh alias Monu, son of Inder Singh, resident of Ward No. 10, Kathua. The victim succumbed to injuries in the Govt Medical College hospital, Jammu last mid night.
A police spokesman said that incident took place on Sunday evening, when one of the cousins, Sohan Singh (junior), son of Samunder Singh of the same locality, was cutting a tree in the land under some dispute between the two families in Ward No.11. Monu objected to it and it was followed by verbal clash between the two. Amidst abuses and clash, Sohan Singh (Jr) allegedly attacked his cousin Monu with the large and sharp sickle being used for cutting trees and branches of trees.
Monu resisted and fought for some time, but being unarmed, he sustained serious stab wound on head, arms and then fell down on the ground. Leaving him bleeding profusely on the ground, his cousin then fled the spot along with weapon. The neighbours heard the screams of Monu and then rushed him to District hospital Kathua. They also informed family members of the victim. The matter was reported to police which flung into action and started search for the accused.
As the condition of Monu was serious, he was referred to GMC hospital, Jammu after providing first aid by the doctors at Kathua. He succumbed to injuries in Jammu hospital last mid night. His body was brought to his home town during early hours today and after conducting postmortem, was handed over to the family.
The police said that accused Sohan Singh was arrested from a hideout in Parli Wand area of Kathua town today. A murder case under Section 302 RPC has been registered against him.
