RAJOURI, May 7: A youth was killed while his associate critically injured, after their i-10 car met head-on-collision with a truck coming from opposite direction at Dhanma, on Rajouri-Jammu road this afternoon.
The mishap took place at around 2.15 pm when the ill-fated car baring registration number, JK02AL/ 0220 was on its way to Jammu from here while Truck No. JK02AY/ 5437, loaded with karyana goods, was moving towards Rajouri. Hardly 16 km short of Rajouri town, the car met head on collision with the truck causing critical injuries to both the car driver and his associate.
A police spokesman said that as per eye-witness account, both the vehicles were in speed and impact of the collision was so powerful that car went under the truck and got crushed badly. Both the occupants in the car got trapped inside the crushed vehicle. The truck driver and cleaner also received some injuries but they came out of the vehicle on their own. The car was dragged backwards about 50 feet by the truck after collision on the road.
The locals rushed towards the spot and police also reached there immediately. The officers from Civil Administration sought Army help to rescue the two critically injured youth in the car. It took about two hours to the joint rescue team to drag out the accident victims.
Condition of Vishu Gupta (23), son of Ravi Gupta (owner of Gupta Pen House, Rajouri), resident of Rajouri town was very critical. His leg had been badly crushed and he also received head injuries. The condition of his associate Mehtab, son of Mohd Arif of Rajouri was also not good. Both of them were rushed to Army Hospital Rajouri where Vishu was later declared as dead. His body was later shifted to Civil Hospital Rajouri by police for postmortem and performing other legal formalities. Mehtab was being shifted to Govt Medical College Hospital Jammu and his condition was also not so good, the doctors said.
