SRINAGAR, June 3: Youth Congress leaders today staged a cycle rally to protest rising prices and inflation, accusing the Centre of failing to provide relief to the common people amid the increasing cost of essential commodities.
The protesters rode bicycles through city areas before reaching the party headquarters, saying the rally was intended to draw attention to what they described as the Government’s inability to control inflation.

Addressing reporters, Congress leaders alleged that prices have risen steadily since 2014 despite promises of better days for ordinary citizens.
They questioned whether the Government’s assurances of “achhe din” had translated into any relief for the common man, who they said continues to struggle with the rising cost of living.
“The rally was aimed at waking up a sleeping Government. Inflation has increased continuously and the common man is bearing the brunt of it,” Yasir Mandoo, a party leader said.
He claimed that households across the country were facing mounting financial pressure as the prices of essential items, including edible oil, flour, rice and milk, had increased significantly.
Mandoo alleged that the Government’s failure to keep inflation in check had eroded the purchasing power of people and made it difficult for many families to meet basic needs.
The Congress leaders also criticised remarks attributed to the Prime Minister on spending and consumption, alleging that ordinary citizens were not seeking luxuries but struggling to afford daily necessities.
“The common man is not demanding luxury. People are finding it difficult to afford even two meals a day while prices of essential commodities continue to rise.”
The party urged the Centre to take immediate measures to curb inflation and provide relief to people affected by the rising cost of living.
