A group of Youth Congress activists, however, staged a protest outside the Press Club to express solidarity with the students of Jamia Millia Islamia, Banaras Hindu University and Aligarh Muslim University, and also on the detention of JKPYC chief Uday Chib.
Soon after a group of Youth Congress activists assembled outside the Press Club and started to march towards the main road amid anti-BJP slogans, a strong contingent of police deployed to foil their protest.
“We have planned to stage a protest against the police atrocities on the students of Jamia Millia but our leader Uday Chib was taken unconstitutionally away from his home this morning and lodged at Janipur Police Station,” a Youth Congress activist said.
The Youth Congress said the BJP should be ashamed of this as it is the democratic right of every Indian to protest. “The BJP is using police to suppress the voice of the people of the country,” .
The protesting activists accused the Government of muzzling the voice of the people. “It is the democratic right of every citizen to protest peacefully against the Government and by taking Uday Chib into preventive custody shows the frustration of BJP and it should be ashamed,” the protesting Youth Congress activists said.
“The voice of people cannot be silenced by using force. Every time force is applied to dominate and rule, every time you beat and suppress, every time you push people to the wall, they will rise up stronger, their resolve will strengthen and their voice will grow louder,” they said.
Youth Congress office bearers Vishal Chopra,Devyansh Jamwal,Sushil Bhagat,Abhishek and Anirudh were also detained from the protest venue by police.
They said, ” We will continue our struggle against the Citizens (Amendment) Act peacefully within the democratic framework of the system.”
