KATHUA, Apr 15: Gandhi Global Family in collaboration with Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Education, Rajbagh organized Youth conclave on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals today.
Deputy Chairman, J&K Legislative Council Jahangir Hussain Mir graced the occasion as a chief guest while Dr CM Seth, vice chairman IIPA, New Delhi presided over the function. The programme was started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the chief guest and other special guests.
Brij Kohli, Principal of the College welcomed the guests, participants, staff and students from various colleges of Kathua and gave a brief presentation of 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by UN General Assembly on September 6, 2015.
The chief guest emphasized on the promotion of peace activities across the region and appreciated efforts of Padamshree SP Varma and GGF in this regard and said GGF will help students to become ambassador of peace and people sitting in US and other countries.
SP Verma, president Gandhi Global Family while addressing the gathering said that 17 UN goals are part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by 193 Member States at the UN General Assembly Summit in September 2015, and which came into effect on January Ist, 2016. He also informed that these goals are the result of an unprecedented consultative process that brought national governments and millions of citizens from across the globe together to negotiate and adopt the global path to sustainable development for the next 15 years.
Dr Taran Singh, Treasurer, Youth Hostel Association of India talked about SD Goal No 4, i.e. health and wellness and said many pharmaceutical companies are making medicines by compromising environment which leads to environmental pollution resulting into many health issues across the region.
Bharat Bhushan, Addl DC Kathua said that people like SP Varma can work as a catalyst in the society and also motivates government departments to work with more zeal.
