Youth, 2 women among 5 die of COVID in Jammu, one in Kashmir

Daily positive cases decline to 88

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, July 20: After several days, Jammu and Kashmir today recorded surge in COVID casualties with six persons succumbing to the virus including five in Jammu region and one in Kashmir while Ladakh recorded seven new positive cases. A total of 88 persons tested positive for the virus in J&K.
Among five COVID deaths in Jammu, two were reported in Udhampur district and one each in Jammu, Doda and Kathua districts. Two of them were women and a youth.
A 28-year-old youth hailing from Paloura in Jammu district died of co-morbidities and COVID-19 in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
An 85-year-old man from Rampur Sool in Billawar tehsil of Kathua district died of multiple ailments and virus in the GMC Jammu while 76-year-old woman from Dongroo Ghat in Doda district with no co-morbidity breathed her last due to the virus in the GMC Doda.
A 79-year-old man from Bashat Chenani and 73-year-old woman from Ward No. 7, both in Udhampur district, died of ailments and Corona infection in the District Hospital and Command Hospital of Udhampur respectively.
Five Corona casualties have taken death toll in Jammu region to 2137 with Jammu district accounting for highest 1139 deaths followed by Rajouri 224, Kathua 150, Udhampur 135, Doda 124, Samba 119, Poonch 94, Ramban 66 and Kishtwar and Reasi districts 43 each.
Meanwhile, 35 persons today tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu region including 11 in Jammu district, six Doda, five Udhampur, four each in Rajouri and Poonch, two each in Ramban and Kishtwar and one in Kathua district.
Samba and Ramban districts didn’t report any fresh cases today.
Ninety three persons today recovered from the virus.
Jammu region now has 1,21,320 Corona cases. Of them, 691 are active positives while 1,18,492 have recovered from the virus and there have been 2137 casualties.
The Union Territory of Ladakh today reported seven fresh COVID cases, all in Leh district.
Ladakh’s Corona count has gone up to 20264 including 99 active positives, 19959 recoveries and 206 fatalities—148 in Leh and 58 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 53 fresh cases of COVID-19 while one person succumbed to the viral infection.
Those who tested positive include 16 from Srinagar, 10 from Baramulla, 05 from Budgam, 00 from Pulwama, 6 from Kupwara, 7 from Anantnag, 5 from Bandipora and 4 from Ganderbal.
As per officials figures, 70,993 positive cases including 832 deaths and 69,797 recoveries are from Srinagar, 23,500 including 281 deaths and 23,117 recoveries are from Baramulla, 22,814 including 22,526 recoveries and 204 deaths are from Budgam, 15,114 including 14,840 recoveries and 194 deaths are from Pulwama, 14,015 including 165 deaths and 13,792 recoveries are from Kupwara, 16,290 including 16,001 recoveries and 205 deaths are from Anantnag, 9,445 cases including 9,278 and 100 deaths are from Bandipora, 9,828 including 9,685 recoveries and 78 deaths are from Ganderbal, 11,217 including 11,069 recoveries and 117 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,576 including 5,510 recoveries and 58 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 198,792 including 195,615 recoveries and 2,234 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,634 including 943 from Kashmir division.
With 221 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 320,112, which is 98.13 percent of the total cases.
